Mouthpiece trick
Leave your reed on the mouthpiece over the
night to ”learn” and to be familiar with your
mouthpiece.
Good when you are breaking in your reeds.

Balacing a reed
Play a "open" G on each side of the mouthpiece,
holding your clarinet mouthpiece in angle in
your mouth. The side that sounds dull and
produces a poor sound is the side to work on.
Scrape to balance your reed, use a fine knife or
fine sandpaper. If the tone is to bright,
scrape a bit up from the tip of the reed. If your
reed is very hard and sounds dull, scrape where
your lips meets the reed. Don´t overdo!

Suction test
Place your reed on the mouthpiece, holding
it with your hand to the ”body part” to create
vacuum.
Suck out the remaining air in the mouthpiece.
A god reed shall manage a 3 - 10 seconds before
it opens.
